If anyone is interested in purchasing the fresh in the city hand-power smoothie maker and tricycle, please let me know, and make me a reasonable offer. The smoothie maker is in need of a little TLC and a little reconditioning, but is still in pretty good working order, and has served me very well for running smoothie making workshops at festivals and community events. I’m looking to make a more streamlined model, which is why I’m ready to pass this one on to somebody who feels they could make use of it. It’s certainly very unique; and great fun, especially at kids events and festivals. If you’re interested, or know anyone else who may be interested, please email me at janet@freshinthecity.co.uk Speak soon
Kind regards
Janet

Fresh in the City has now been up and running successfully for 2 years. During this time, I’ve been running children’s workshops, organising health events, writing articles, coaching, and giving nutritional consultations and supporting individuals to reach their health goals. What became clear this year is that the challenge many people are facing in order to develop and progress their health goals even further than their original goal sets is that there is a need for continued support, inspiration and know-how over a time period, and at an affordable price. The Fresh in the City membership packages are designed to add that personalised, continued and affordable support, and there are 3 package options to choose from; the starter package, intermediate package and the premium package, depending on the level of personal support you are looking for. Take a look below for more on these…
Package 1 - The Starter Package (The Home-Study option) This package is for you if you want know-how, support and inspiration to help you reach your health and fitness goals but you want to work at home on your own and at your own pace. This is for you if you want to work towards your health and fitness goals, but are happy to do that with regular newsletters, workbooks, assignments, and email support.Package 2 - The Intermediate Package
“I want regular personal health and fitness support and guidance, but a gentle approach. I still want to be accountable, but need space to integrate and sustain new changes in my lifestyle”
This package is for you if you are looking for regular personal coaching and assignments, nutritional know-how and inspiration, quarterly telephone check-ins, a personal 1-2-1 meet up session, and some accountability to help you stay on track, but you want to go at your own pace and upgrade your lifestyle steadily over a period of 12 months
Package 3 - The Premium Package
“I’m ready to make changes, take action, be inspired, guided, accountable, and fully supported for 12 months”
This package is for you if you are looking for monthly personal coaching, nutritional know-how and inspiration, monthly check-ins, assignments, a personal 1-2-1 meet up session, and full accountability and support to reach your health and fitness goals over the next 12 months.
The packages cost £69 for the starter package, £129 for the intermediate package, and £209 for the premium package. If you are interested in working with me over the next 12 months and would like to know more about the fresh in the city packages, send an email to me at janet@freshinthecity.co.uk letting me know the package you are interested in, and I will arrange a telephone meeting for us to have a chat about the package you are interested in and the results you are looking for.

During July, Fresh in the City has been out and about making smoothies again; this time for the Spike Island event in Salford. Spike Island is an inner city housing estate situated in Lower Broughton surrounded by the River Irwell. The event was organised to provide a positive, and social fun day for the local area and also to raise awareness about climate change and the risks this particular estate faces regarding potential flooding of the River Irwell. Fresh in the City teamed up with Natalie Best, Ben Thomas and Rowan Gausden to provide a day of hand-powered smoothies, green woodwork, key ring making, and spoon carving. All in all a great day!

Last year celebrated the debut and the invention (courtesy of Noisy Logs and co.) of the ‘fresh in the city vehicle’…a hand-powered smoothie making maching, which slots on or off of a 1970s tricycle I bought second-hand from ebay.
I was invited along to quite a few festivals last year (including Glastonbury) to run my creative smoothie making
workshops which promote three healthy benefits…
…fresh food, physical activity and economic energy.
The workshops allow children and adults to choose the
ir own smoothie ingredients, to blend them using their own hand and arm-power in the fresh in the city hand powered blender, and finally after all their hard work, and an increased awareness of how much energy it has taken them to blend their smoothie, they get to savour their delicious and healthy treat.
This yea
r as Summer time approaches and the festival season gets nearer the fresh in the city tricycle will be out and about again, and I and my assistant Natalie will be available throughout the Summer to run our smoothie making workshops at festivals and local events in the North West of England.
If you are interested in us running a workshops at your event, school, or festival, or you would like to know more about the ‘ fresh in the city’ smoothie making workshops we run, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with me personally by sending an email to janet@freshinthecity.co.uk

Spring is a great time to shed some of your excess baggage and toxicity and a detox is a fantastic way to renew yourself and present yourself to the world with skin that is a little clearer and eyes that shine a little brighter.
A detox doesn’t have to be complicated or extreme and can easily fit into your everyday lifestyle. All that is needed is a conscious effort to cleanse, a little bit of knowledge, and a small amount of practical preparation. Here are a few simple tips to help get you started…
Choose a period for your detox - anything from between 10 - 21 days is good. During this time you’re going to be concentrating on a fresh, vibrant, and wholefood eating plan. No junk, no wheat, no dairy, no caffeine, no alcohol, no chocolate, no sugar, no red meat, and no fried foods.
Instead you’re going to be filling yourself up on abundant fresh vegetables, salad ingredients, organic fruit, pulses, sprouted seeds, sprouted beans, quinoa, hummus, nuts and seeds, brown rice, wheat free pasta, organic fish (for non-vegetarians), herbal teas and plenty of pure water (at least 1.5 litres per day)
What this means in practise is…
Breakfast Ideas
A smoothie or a fruit s
alad, fresh juice (made with more vegetables than fruit), home-made sugar free muesli, porridge, or a buckwheat breakfast cereal topped with some almond milk
Lunch Ideas
Lunch could be a large green or mixed salad topped with sprouted beans or seeds, or a handful of nuts or seeds. The salad could also be served with a lemony dressing and a bean type dip. You could also have a large platter of crudites with a healthy dip, or a jacket potato served with a large salad and hummus.
Alternatively you could enjoy freshly made vegetable soup, or a vegetable stew with a slice of wheat-free bread or a couple of oatcakes.
Tea
Your evening meal could be something as simple as brown rice with vegetables, or for non-vegetarians a simple fish dish with vegetables. A bean stew with brown rice, or a wheat free pasta dish served with a tomato and basil, or a nut based topping and lots of vegetables would also be a good choice.
Snacks
Snacks could be anything from a piece of fruit to a smoothie, or a green juice. Crudites on their own, or with with nut butter could also be enjoyed, as could a small handful of nuts and seeds, dried fruit (for those with a sweet tooth) or a dairy free yoghurt
Everyday…aim to have one fresh juice (made with more vegetables than fruit) e.g. A jade garden…1/2 cucumber, 3 stalks of celery, 1 apple, 1 lime, and mint to taste… is a deliciously refreshing and cleansing juice.
As well as changing your diet you also want to support your bodies natural detoxification by improving elimination. This means supporting all your bodies eliminatory organs:
The skin - skin brushing, massage, saunas and exercise support the skins elimination…The liver - the herb milk thistle is very supportive 0f the liver - take 20 drops of a milk thistle tincture twice per day in water…The kidneys - drinking plenty of water and herbal teas will support the kidneys…The lymphatic system - massage, exercise and the herbal tincture calendula is very supportive of the lymphatic system and can be introduced into your programme for those who need to boost their lymphatic system…The bowel - good bowel function is essential for detoxification. Triphala is very supportive to the bowel, or 1tbsp soaked linseeds (soaked overnight in 1 glass of water) then drunk in the morning can help improve bowel function.
And there you have it! Easy and simple. If you’d like to know more, then you can email me at janet@freshinthecity.co.uk.

This week at the Manchester Midland hotel, the reflections gym team have yet again come up with a fun fundraising challenge for comic relief. Red nose day is on Friday 13th March, but it’s this week On Friday 6th March that the Midland’s willing members will be paying a £5 fee to take part in the swim the channel challenge! Each member books the pool out for themselves for 15 minutes and swims as many laps as they can in this time. The plan is that over the course of the day, the distance swum by the gym members will equal the distance of the English Channel which is around about 35km depending where you swim from or to. Just one of the many fun ideas (which also keeps you fit) for raising money for comic relief. Why not get involved with a local group in your own area, or start your own fundraising event for a bit of fun and fitness yourself at www.comicrelief.com
